HOW YOU WILL MAKE THIS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
The Field Safety Specialist,  will be responsible for providing support to the MGE Underground’s Civil Construction Supervisors, Foremen, and Crew Members. The Field Safety Specialist works to detect, prevent, and mitigate safety risks. Provides subject matter expertise on field observations and provides consultation and guidance on corrective actions. Communicates safety trends and recommends corrective actions. Serves as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of company safety initiatives. This position will require travel to job sites on a weekly basis.

WHAT WE ENTRUST YOU TO DO
  • Read for incident investigations.
  • Conduct Loss Prevention Observations (LPOs).
  • Investigate safety incidents which result in employee injury, work procedure error, and damage to company and third-party property.
  • Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HS&E programs in the field.
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation, standards, and company policies, to ensure compliance.
  • Inform the Safety Manager of any new or conflicting legislative matters that could impact the company.
  • Assist in developing a Safety Management Plan (SMP) for the company to ensure a safe work environment for all company employees, contractors, visitors, and community.
  • Regularly audit the SMP for compliance and update to ensure the alignment with company’s goals and safety standards.
  • Provide direction, support, and resources to Civil Construction Crews.
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately to the Safety Manager and/or Safety Director.
  • Participate and assist t in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.
  • Ensure injured workers are offered modified duties and formal documentation has been completed. Monitor and follow-up on modified workers in the field.
  • Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the agreement, and communicated to the Project Managers, Supervisors, Foremen and Crews Members.
  • Prepare for and participate in safety audits.
  • Communicate safety trends and recommend safety corrective actions.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Excellent investigation and analytical skills.
  • Understand and follow all applicable safety regulations.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.
  • Ability to work safely in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight as required; an average of 2 nights may be expected.

YOUR PRIOR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate or CRSP is a plus
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certificate is a plus.
  • 5 years of experience in civil construction.
  • 3 years in safety and health field experience.

COMPETITIVE PACKAGE
The pay range for the Field Safety Specialist in Fresno, CA is $35.00 - $45.00 hourly.
This pay range is our competitive compensation at the time of this job posting. Your pay will be determined based on a number of factors, such as experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
