The Assistant Controller will work under the direction of the controller and assist with the preparation of financial statements and internal control systems. The assistant controller’s duties include managing the WIP team, reconciling accounts, assisting with financial audits, coordinating the month-end close process, developing standard processes for balance sheet account supporting documentation and subsidiary schedules, and preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The assistant controller assists the controller in overseeing operational accounting functions, including WIP, A/P, A/R, and Payroll.

WHAT WE ENTRUST YOU TO DO

  • Responsible for month and year-end close process including reconciliation of general ledger accounts and analysis of financial activity.
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to WIP, accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, and taxes.
  • Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant fixed asset accounting standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Office Suite skills. Experience with accounting software systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid Class C Driver License with clean driving record.

YOUR PRIOR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in supervisory role.

COMPETITIVE PACKAGE
The pay range for the Assistant Controller in Paso Robles, CA is $120,000- to $135,00 annually.
This pay range is our competitive compensation at the time of this job posting. Your pay will be determined based on a number of factors, such as experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
