HOW YOU WILL MAKE THIS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
The Yard Technician is responsible for the general upkeep of an over five-acre yard, assuring it is well stocked, cleaned, and organized. This position is essential to keep the day-to-day operation running safely and smoothly. The Yard Technician will be working closely with the Superintendents and crews to manage all aspects of the construction yard to include organization of equipment, material inventory/ordering, maintenance of grounds, and minor repair of vehicles as needed.

SOME OF WHAT WE ENTRUST YOU TO DO
  • Oversee material and equipment inventory and restocking.
  • Oversee yard layout and equipment lineup.
  • Responsible for the organization of the yard including general yard maintenance and yard clean up.
  • Clean and organize shop work area: sweep and clean work surfaces, clean vehicles, store parts, empty and discard garbage.
  • Loading and unloading material on/off of delivery trucks or company vehicles.
  • May operate power-driven equipment that may be needed to maintain the yard, such as leaf blowers, weed trimer, forklift, etc.
  • May perform minor repairs on equipment as directed.
  • Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, PPE, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action.
  • May be required to handle hazardous materials.
  • Assist with safety protocols for backing and lifting.
  • Sweep the yard with skid steer and water yard surfaces for dust control.
  • Schedule weekly pick up and replacement for roll off bins.
  • Schedule tankers for mud disposal.
  • Dig out mud ponds and mix with dry spoils.
  • Walk property fence perimeter, repairing damaged fencing as needed.
  • Check storm drains and repair protection as needed.
  • Inspect and sign off on fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
  • Order tools, repair parts, vehicle supplies from the Fleet department.
  • Grease yard equipment .
  • Keep trucks and trailers in organized rows to maintain efficiency when crew arrive and depart from the yard.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper use of equipment and tools.
  • Able to maintain a clean, organized, clutter free yard, inventory skills a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule with minimal direction.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record, Class A Driver’s License a plus.
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy/highway construction work, a plus.

YOUR PRIOR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification and ability to operate a forklift and front-end loader a plus
  • Mechanically inclined a plus.

COMPETITIVE PACKAGE
The pay range for the Civil Yard Tech in San Jose CA is $21.00  to $25.00 hourly.
This pay range is our competitive compensation at the time of this job posting. Your pay will be determined based on a number of factors, such as experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
