HOW YOU WILL MAKE THIS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
The Mechanic is experienced in a wide range of mechanical skills. This position will be responsible for but not limited to troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and gas/diesel problems, including some fabrication.  Additional responsibilities also include the maintenance, inspection, and repair of company owned vehicles and equipment, assisting with audits, inspections, and general upkeep of the shop. This position has the potential for promotion and wage advancement within the department with continued on the job experience and the completion of relevant certification programs

SOME OF WHAT WE ENTRUST YOU TO DO

  • Coach and mentor entry level Mechanics, oversee daily work/performance, inspect installations/repairs, ensure all safety standards and practices are met.
  • Ability to make repairs on job sites as needed.
  • Conduct inspection of vehicles and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot problems for repair.
  • Repair and maintain construction equipment of various types and sizes from light-duty to over the road trucks and from light-duty to heavy-duty operating equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance following operations manuals as well as electrical and hydraulic diagrams/ air condition units.
  • Remove and replace defective parts by dismantling devices using hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance when used.
  • May fabricate, weld, and cut parts, using arc-welding/ wire feed and flame cutting equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) ninety-day inspections
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding MGE’s policies, procedures, and software programs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability work and drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and days, to include nights, weekends, and extended hours.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

YOUR PRIOR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in heavy-duty equipment service and repair.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with hydraulics, diesel engines, and  DOT/BIT.
  • One year experience with air brakes.
  • One year experience with vehicle electrical and computer controlled systems.
  • Welding and fabrication experience

COMPETITIVE PACKAGE
The pay range for the Mechanic in San Jose CA is $38 to $56 hourly.
This pay range is our competitive compensation at the time of this job posting. Your pay will be determined based on a number of factors, such as experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
